Hay is more than just a product on a shelf - it is the foundation of your animal’s nutrition.

That is why Brad takes hay quality seriously. We personally source and haul our own hay instead of using brokers, giving us a closer connection to the growers, the product, and the quality coming into our barn.

We believe you deserve to know what you are feeding your animals, and we work hard to bring in hay we are proud to sell.

 We are often asked, “Why does hay cost what it does?” The answer is simple: quality.

Hay prices are determined by several factors, including:

• Consistency – Reliable hay that performs the same from bale to bale 
• Weight – Heavier, properly packed bales provide more feed value 
• Freight & Availability – Transportation costs and seasonal availability impact pricing 
• Location – Hay quality and supply vary greatly depending on where it is grown 
• Cleanliness – Quality hay should be free of unwanted debris, weeds, mold, and foreign material 

Our goal is always to provide the highest quality hay possible at a fair price for our customers and their animals. 

One of the biggest misconceptions about hay pricing is what the labels A1, A2, A3, etc. actually mean. 

Many customers assume these numbers represent:

• ❌ The cutting (first cutting, second cutting, third cutting) 
• ❌ A universal industry grade 
• ❌ A specific quality standard that is the same everywhere 
• 
  

That is not the case. At feed stores, labels like Alfalfa 1 (A1), Alfalfa 2 (A2), Alfalfa 3 (A3), and so on are simply a way for that store to organize hay relative to the other hay in their own inventory.

For example:

• One store’s A1 may not be the same as another store’s A1 
• A different supplier, growing region, weather conditions, and harvest can all change hay quality 
• A lower number does not automatically mean “first cutting” or a specific type of hay 

The best way to determine if a hay works for your animal is to look at it, feel it, smell it, and ask questions. Our team is happy to help you find the right hay based on your animal’s needs, not just a number on a tag.
